Tips For Traveling While at Home

Like many of you, we are so ready to rack up some stamps in our passports. However, until it’s completely safe to do so again, we’re finding ways to bring the destination to you. Travel is not simply about visiting the latest Instagrammable destinations, although that is a good reason to travel. Travel is about exploring and experiencing new food, culture, and music. Don’t worry, we’ll be boarding planes, walking on white-sand beaches, and sipping exquisite cocktails soon. In the meantime, there are ways that you can travel without stepping foot out of your house.

Check out these tips for traveling while at home.

  1. Learn to cook a meal from a destination you have always wanted to go visit.

  2. Spend time researching a new culture. While dreaming about your bucket list destinations, take a moment to learn about the culture there. That way, when you arrive you’re knowledgeable about the destination.

  3. Watch YouTube videos about your dream destination. Right now travel inspiration is needed more than ever. What better way to get excited about your next vacation than to drool over videos of crystal clear waters, lush mountains, and luxury accommodations.

  4. Use this time to research your next family vacation destination for after travel bans are lifted. We all have a laundry list of our “must visit” destinations. Use this time to narrow down the top vacation spots for your next vacation.

  5. Find new music from another country to listen to. Try Soca, Reggae, or Flamenco to get you started! Take it from us, it’s okay to move the coffee table and salsa across the living room floor to get ready for those Havana nights.

  6. Take a virtual vacation by attending online museum tours for free! You can start with the Musée d’Orsay, Paris or Uffizi Gallery, Florence.

  7. Learn a new language you can use on a future trip. Wouldn’t it be great to ask for directions in French or order your complete meal in Spanish? Take a moment to learn a foreign language. It’ll come in handy during your next trip.

  8. Watch travel-themed movies or shows. You can start with The World's Most Extraordinary Homes or Ugly Delicious on Netflix.

  9. Learn about animals from around the world by taking a virtual tour of a zoo or aquarium, such as the National Zoo or Monterrey Bay Aquarium.
